If you, like me, have been holding on to your beloved Google Pixel 7 Pro since its launch, waiting for a worthy upgrade in the Pixel Pro series, the newly announced Pixel 10 Pro could be an interesting option to consider. Is it worth upgrading? Let’s have a look at the specs comparison between these two ‘Pro’ Android Pixel smartphones.

The Pixel 10 Pro comes with Android 16 pre-installed, while the Pixel 7 Pro can be updated to Android 16 via OTA. The new Pixel 10 series is expected to receive up to 7 major Android updates, potentially reaching Android 23. The 7 Pro, on the other hand, will get up to 5 major Android upgrades (it initially launched with Android 13, so expect up to Android 18).

Just because both these devices can be updated to the latest Android version doesn’t always mean they have identical features – especially when it comes to the Google Camera app as well as various new AI features.

The Pixel 10 Pro features several new camera software functions, such as Camera Couch, 8K Video Boost, Improved High-res zoom, and Night Sight video ( also available on Pixel 9 Pro ), which are absent from the Android 16 update for the Pixel 7 Pro.

Although Google occasionally releases Pixel updates via ‘Pixel Drops’ to older phones, don’t expect any new camera features to land on older Pixel phones like the 7 Pro.

Hardware-wise, the Pixel 10 Pro boasts much-improved cameras. While you might not notice significant changes in regular wide shots due to the excellent Google Camera’s computational features available on both, the telephoto lens performance is notably better in the new Pixel 10 Pro compared to the Pixel 7 Pro. The front camera is better as well, now supports Auto Focus, and is wider than the 7 Pro.

If you take a lot of photos with your Pixel phone, the new Pixel 10 Pro would be a good upgrade from the Pixel 7 Pro. It features better displays, build quality, larger camera sensors, many new exclusive software features, and offers up to 7 major Android updates, making it a worthy purchase.
